Local Democratic Events to mark on the calendar

If you really want to be in the building for the upcoming State Democratic Convention and possibly witness Barack Obama address the Assembly and Convention and you are not a delegate or high-ranking party official you still have a chance....simply be a local volunteer.

I was told last night by John Morris (chairman of the El Paso Democratic Party) and also the Head of the local Greening Committee that all state convention volunteers will be credentialed. I was also told that being an alternate does not guarantee credentials. The World Arena conceivably will sit 8,000 (+/-) or so persons and there will be 5016 delegates, plus the additional party officials, volunteers so with the prospects of a contested convention/assembly that will attract one if not both Presidential Candidates seating will be at a premium.

One volunteer opportunity is working on the transportation committee that will be meeting Thursday (tomorrow night) at the El Paso Democratic HQ's at 6:30. Jason DeGroot will be chairing the committee and I have agreed to help out my friend, even though I am a delegate to the CD-5 Assembly, Alternate to the Convention and on the Permanent Committee. Why take a chance....help out organizing the public transport and I know I am in. You can contact Jason at

Another volunteer opportunity is to participate on the Vender's Committee that Karen Teja is chairing this committee. You may contact her at karenteja@earthlink.net or 729-232-3429.

Also speaking of Karen, she is hosting a local campaign school. Friday evening is the first informational meeting for those who are thinking of running for a local office or running a campaign you should check this out.
